Research
In this section of my blog I will be covering different research methods and I will be researching and analysing different how to videos
Different types of research
There are different types of research: Primary research, Secondary research, Quantitate research, Qualitative research.
Primary research is research that you personally know without the help of the internet or books.
Secondary research is research that you doing using other peoples work, the internet and books
Advantages of secondary research
The pros and cons of secondary research is that in secondary research you have more information available from other sources other than yourself. Also, the information that you will find on the internet will be more detailed on the topic you are researching about. For example you could access a lot of detailed information on websites like wikipedia and different blogs that people have made about the topic you want to research about. Another advantage of secondary research is that accessing information on the internet is very fast for example you could find a whole essay on the topic you are researching about that someone made so you could learn about new and different things that are involved in the topic you are researching.
You also don't always have to use the internet as an source of secondary research you could use books on said topic you are researching about. That way you could find information about the topic. Another reason why books are great for finding out information is because for example if an author of a book writes a non-fiction book which is a book about something that happened in real life like a event, crime or just information about a country and it's culture. If he or she do write a non-fiction the author needs to do a lot of research before writing about it because maybe he or she does not know what they are talking about. That way you have a 100% guarantee that the books information was fact checked before being published.
Quantative research is when you ask a lot of people questions in person. This type of research is mostly used for surveys and a way to get statistics out of people
Advantages of Quantative research
The advantages of Quantitative research is that it is very fast for the public to fill out depending on how many questions there are. Another advantage of using quantitative research is that you can get a reply to your questions which may vary from low or high amount details on the questions filled out. Another advantage is that most people will have no trouble in operating a internet survey on their phones as most people nowadays use phones everyday for their daily necessities. Another advantage of using an internet survey is that you won't be taking peoples time from their day for long.
Disadvantages of Quantative research
The disadvantages of using Quantitative research such as internet survey is that people could give you very vague answer that you can't use for everything for example a person fills out your questionnaire with only using the words 'yes' or 'no' in some circumstances this answer could help because you know how many people might like your product or service but a problem with that is that you don't know why they like it or not. In some situations people don't tell you why so you can't use that answer sometimes. Another disadvantage is that if you are asking someone to fill out your survey but you ask someone older they might not know how to use the internet survey which would be hard to ask them their opinion on something using this method of research you might want to use the qualitative method of research as it would be easier to get their opinion.
Qualitative research is when you ask a lot of people questions in person this type of research is similar to Quantities research but qualitative research is more detailed version of it. You ask a lot of people more detailed questions
Advantages of Primary Research
The advantages of primary research are that you know the information from the top of your head. Another advantage is that you don't have to research it on the internet so it will save you time looking for info.
Disadvantages of Primary research
A disadvantage of primary research is that your info is limited and more research would have to be done
Legal and Ethical consideration
Ethical consideration is when a type of media focuses on the moral side of things. This means that the video won't contain anything that will offend different communities such as:
Religion
Racism
sexual orientation
Gender
Unethical Considerations
Unethical Consideration is when a type of media has offensive content towards different communities in their video. If a video has offensive content targeting different communities the video might get taken down by the administrators. For example YouTube might take down a video for ethical violation.
Legal considerations
Legal considerations are set by the government laws and written law. If a legal consideration law gets broken you could go to court for it. For example copyright, if you break a copyright law then you might go to court for it. If you use copyrighted material under fair use laws then you'll be able to use it. Fair use is a law where you can use copyright material if you are making a review of something, for education purposes.
Legal consideration also involves privacy laws. If you leak any private information without consent of the person then you might go to court for violation of privacy laws.
Market research
Market research is used to gather information and to understand a company's target market. Companies use market research to make better products and how to sell their products better in the future. Companies could also use market research to understand their target audience better like what age demographic the brand would fit in best, and what kind of thing they would like to sell to them.
What is target audience?
Target audience is a group of people that a brand targets with a specific product. It is important for the business to make a product suitable for their age demographic. For example 18 - 25 year olds.
Age restriction in films
In the movie world it is important for a movie to have an age rating because some things aren't suitable for younger audiences. BBFC (British Boards of Film Certifications) is an organisation that focuses on giving movies age ratings in the uk.

This image shows the different age ratings
Research of different how to videos on camera angles
In this section of my research I will be analysing 3 different how to videos from other creators and assess the videos if they are good or bad by seeing if their video is informative about the subject, the way the video has been edited (music, voiceover)
First video
This is the first video that I will be looking at. It's made by a creator called D4Darious and he makes videos specifically about filmmaking. So when I was watching this video I realised that it is very informative about all of the camera angles and he gives a lot of examples of how the shot will look like and examples of movies using specific camera angles.
His editing capabilities are really good. This is really well edited video. It is really fast paced and he gets straight to the point of explaining something about a certain camera angle. His voice over audio levels are at a good standard and his voice over isn't too loud.
Even though his video is 12 minutes long he makes the video a really fast paced video and it makes the video seem shorter. His camera work is really good as well he seems like he knows what he is doing. The creator seems to know how to handle professional equipment.
The whole video is really enjoyable to watch because of his personality when on camera, and also throughout the video there are small comedy skits through out the video.
Second video
This the second video that I will be reviewing. If it is informative, well put together and overall recorded in good quality.
So this video covers how to do 12 camera angles to enhance any media project. well by only looking at the youtube thumbnail of the video it looks like the video is good quality. At the beginning of the video the people in the video talk about why do people use camera angles in their media projects which, in my opinion is a very good way to start a how to video because some people might not know and it's a good question in general to ask somebody about.
Later on the video they show the 12 different camera angles and they explain what they do and how to use them correctly. Some of the angles they talk about are Dutch angles, high angles, low angles, wide shot, close ups
The video is 10 minutes long which in my opinion is a good length for a how to camera angle video because the overall tutorial is 10 minutes long but it covers 12 different camera angles in that 10 minutes which I think is really good
The video is quite informative they talk about what are camera angles then they show how to do them and how to use them correctly in your media projects. I think that it is a good informative video because it has a lot of practical things during the video and also a lot of theory about camera work and cinematography
The video editing of the video is pretty good. It was made with really good quality equipment. They also used a lot of lighting equipment when recording to up the video quality and make the person stand out from the background.
Third video
This is the third video that I will be analysing on camera angles. This video isn't a good how to video because it doesn't explain how to achieve all the camera angles, so people new to the topic might get confused on how to do it. The video shows all the camera angles but doesn't explain it.
Although he doesn't explain how to do them the video is edited to a good standard he put music over the video. The video also has smooth transitions to the next video. The how to video is also fast paced and simple. It doesn't look confusing.
The only thing for improvement would be to make a voice over the camera angles to explain them in more detail
